Follows a brief explanation of the different Microsoft Products' Volume Licensing model options

This article deals with the case when a company requires to purchase MS products for quantity of 5 or more users

For quantity under 5 you can:
- Buy from your hardware manufacturer their OEM editions (Original Equipment Manufacturer)
- or FPP (retail fully packaged products) from high street outlets

Some products, however, are available as volume licensing only (usually Enterprise Editions) and for others (such as standard servers products) either scenario is possible.

Volume Licensing Overview

When a company require licensing, there are Two main categories to be covered:

1) The Platform

The Platform covers 3 main sections

I) The CALs for users of all the servers (Windows and applications)

II) MS Office for users

III) MS XP/7 as a client O/S on users PCs

and

2) The applications

The Applications will include all Windows servers, application servers (eg. SharePoint, Exchange, etc..) and other products (eg. Visio, Project, etc..)

Licensing Models (Agreements)

In general a company can select Open Value (OV) or open License Program (OLP),

Note: Enterprise Agreement (EA) is also an option for very large companies too but it is similar to OV option below and is not the subject of this article

OLP

With this licensing model, you can select – at will - any product/edition you want and any CALs for any number of PCs

Software Assurance (SA) is optional.Which grants you the right to upgrades, vouchers for training and implementation services and many other benefits

OLP will be initially cheaper as whole because you can LIMIT the number of quantities for any CAL, and you can select Office edition or single specific Office products at will

It is also cheaper in this sense because SA is NOT compulsory

However, some unit prices are obviously higher than OV

OV Company wide

With OV you START with, and fix, the number of PCs that will be used as basis for the Platform “CALs/Office/Vista” and add applications as required

SA is included and compulsory. This roughly adds 30-50% to per-unit cost for some products, but you will get a much cheaper CALs and Selected Office

Here you only have the CHOICE on the selection of sections II and III of “The Platform” i.e. Office and Vista. You can select one of them or NEITHER

The Core CALs MUST be selected. Because if you don't, then this agreement becomes “OV None-Company-Wide” agreement. Which is almost equivalent to “OLP with SA”

Brief on Core CALs

Core CALs come in 2 flavors: Standard and Enterprise

With Standard Core CALs you get CALs for all PCs to use Windows Standard Servers plus CALs for Exchange Standard, SharePoint Server Standard and System Center (SC) Configuration Manager

With Enterprise Core CALs you get CALs for all PCs to use Windows Enterprise Servers plus CALs for Exchange Enterprise, SharePoint Server Enterprise, SC Configuration Manager, SC Operations Manager, ForeFront Client Security, Office Communications Server and Rights Management Services

Of course, prices are different when you buy the separate CALs as opposed to the price when you buy the bundled/packaged Core CALs

>>> The general idea is that, for a large number of PCs, Core CALs are cheaper

The cost of Exchange and SharePoint CALs alone are usually equal to the Standard CAL where you also get Windows Server CAL and SC Config. Manager CAL

Brief on Vista

Vista is not sold as a full product except as OEM or Retail

In volume licensing, MS offers UPGRADE only, you must have (or buy) OEM Vista from your hardware manufacturer

When you buy the upgrade, you can get Vista Enterprise and SA

You can stay with your OEM Vista on PCs but you’ll be subject to its limitations (Activation and re-activation, Language/localization issues, Product Key, can’t move to other PCs, Media CD replacement issues and others)

Brief on Office

Office versions could be selected to include almost all products or you can buy products separately

Usually Two products (like Excel and Word) are equal to the cost of an Office Edition (Enterprise)

هذا المقال يتناول اقتناء كميات لعدد أكثر من 4 مستخدمين. فمن 1 الى 4 يمكنك شراء FPP من محلات التوزيع او OEM من الشركة المصنعة للحاسوب الذي تقتنيه

فليس من المجدي ان تشتري عدد 200 او حتى 50 من أوفيس حيث سيكون عليك مناولة عدد كبير من الوسائط والصناديق كما يجب حفظ ومتابعة ادارة ارقام التفعيل وغيرها من الامور التي تجعل من هذه الطريقة عبء على كاهل مشرفي تقنية المعلومات وقد تسبب احياناً تعطل العمل. فماذا لو كان العدد 2000 ؟

نبذه عامة
عندما تحتاج مؤسسة إلى ترخيص هناك اثنان من الفئات الرئيسية التي ينبغي تغطيتها :
1) المنصة Platform – و تغطي 3 أقسام رئيسية
      اولاً) - تراخيص وصول المستخدمين الى جميع الخوادم (ويندوز والتطبيقات) Core CALs
       ثانيا) مايكروسوفت أوفيس Office
       ثالثا) يندوز فيستا على أجهزة المستخدمين Vista/XP/7

2) التطبيقات Applications
       وتشمل جميع الخوادم من ويندوز الى خوادم التطبيقات (مثل شيربوينت ، اكستشاينج ، الخ.) وغيرها من المنتجات (مثل Visio ، بروجيكت ، الخ.)

نماذج الترخيص (الاتفاقيات)
يمكنكم اختيار Open Value (OV) او Open License (OLP)

ملاحظة: هناك اسلوب آخر وهو اتفاقية المؤسسة للشركات الكبيرة جداً وهو مشابه لـ OV ادناه وليس موضوع المقال

OLP

اذا رغبت فبامكانك تحديد واختيار أي منتج / اصدار تريد وأي تراخيص وصول العملاء لأي عدد من أجهزة الكمبيوتر
Sotware Assurance SA اختيارية - وهي ضمان الحصول على الترقيات مع مزايا اخرى عديدة – تحتاج شرح مفصل عند الطلب
OLP ستكون أرخص اجمالاً لأنك يمكن أن تحد من الكميات ، ويمكنك اختيار اوفيس او احد برامجه حسب الرغبة

كما أنها أرخص في هذا المعنى لأن SA ليس إلزاميا

OV

بهذه الاتفاقية تبدأ بتحديد عدد الحواسيب التي سيتم استخدامها لدى المؤسسة وذلك لتحديد المنصة من "تراخيص وصول العملاء / اوفيس / فيستا" ومن ثم إضافة التطبيقات كما هو مطلوب
SA إلزاميه فى هذه الحالة وتشكل ثلث التكلفة
لديك الخيار في انتقاء الفرعين الثاني والثالث من "المنصة" أي اوفيس وفيستا.
اختيار Core CALs الزامي. اما إذا لم تقم بتحديدهافيصبح هذا الاتفاق "OV non-company-wide". ويعادل تقريبا " SA مع OLP "

تراخيص وصول العملاء الأساسية تتوفر في خيارين : قياسي Standard وللمؤسسات Enterprise وهي تتكون من الآتي:

Standard Core CALs

موجز بشأن فيستا
فيستا لا تباع كمنتج منفصل متكامل الا عن طريق موزعي القطاعي Retail او ما يتم تحميله على الحواسيب من قبل المصنعين OEM

عند اقتناء فيستا ضمن تراخيص أعداد كبيرة من الحواسيب، فيستا متوفر كترقية فقط ، ويشترط تواجد نسخة OEM
عند شراء ترقية ، يمكنك الحصول على فيستا Enterprise with SA وتستفيد من مزاياه المتقدمة – تحتاج شرح مفصل عند الطلب

يمكنك البقاء مع Vista OEM على أجهزة الكمبيوتر ولكن عليك أن تتقبل قيوده (مشاكل إعادة تفعيل واللغة، مفتاح المنتج ، لا يمكن الانتقال إلى أجهزة كمبيوتر أخرى ، فقدان سي دي المصدر وغيرها)

يمكن أن يتم اختيار إصدارات Office لتشمل تقريبا كل المنتجات أو يمكنك شراء المنتجات بشكل منفصل
عادة اثنين من المنتجات (مثل اكسل وورد) هي مساوية لتكلفة حزمة اوفيس
